The BEST/WORST Thing You Can Say To A Client Is…

NO!!!!

This girl didn’t have a “lip” of skin to pierce through in the FIRST place!

This will be the first post in a new series I am writing on piercing ethics.

Not everyone is always suited to every piercing – and sometimes they are just not suited to the piercing they WANT.

It is hard to say this to your client – but when you KNOW that if you do the piercing it just isn’t going to heal – then it is your responsibility NOT to do it. There is often a similar alternative that WILL WORK for your client’s anatomy/lifestyle etc.

The scarring that can be left behind from a piercing gone wrong can be a permanent reminder to the client of YOUR bad decision.

Yes – there are times when things can go wrong with the work that you do. Often that can be out of your control – but when I see a piercing that “I” have done, heading down the slippery slope to hell – it certainly makes me feel terrible.

With good training, and some experience, this will happen much less often – and that is important for our self-esteem as Piercers. Hurting people every day becomes much harder to deal with when we are not confident that our results will be worth it.

YOUR RESULTS are your business card. Often visible on the faces of the people you pierce – taken with them everywhere they go.

Whether you have been piercing for a long time, or just starting out, the quality of your work is based on your RESULTS. If your results are great – FANTASTIC! If they aren’t – then maybe you need some further training.

To keep doing the same thing and expecting a different RESULT is insane. Be proud of the work you do – but not too proud to ask for help when you need it.

Sometimes business owners push you to do every single piercing that walks through the door – and that can be a tough call if you know it is wrong. I will write about that in my next post in the Piercing Ethics series for you 🙂
